Put Pocket Change on your phone's home screen

Add a Pocket Change button next to your other apps, so you can open the tools with one tap. It takes about a minute, there's nothing to buy, and you don't need an app store.

Quickest way: one tap

Your browser can add Pocket Change for you. Press the button, then choose "Install" in the little window that opens.

Before you start

Open this page in your phone's own web browser first: Chrome on most Android phones, or Safari on an iPhone or iPad. If you arrived from a link in Facebook or an email, the option may be missing. Type pocketchangetools.com into the browser instead.

A Android phone or tablet (Chrome)

  1. Open pocketchangetools.com in Chrome.
  2. Tap the three dots ⋮ in the top right corner.
  3. Tap "Add to home screen". (On some phones it says "Install app".)
  4. If it asks you to choose between "Install" and "Create shortcut", tap "Install". (Otherwise just tap "Install" or "Add".)
  5. The green Pocket Change button (a coin with a £ sign) appears on your home screen. You may need to swipe across to find it.
Install or shortcut? Both put a button on your home screen. "Install" is the better one: Pocket Change opens in its own window like an app, and it appears in your list of apps too. "Create shortcut" just opens the website in Chrome, which also works fine.

B iPhone or iPad (Safari)

  1. Open pocketchangetools.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button: a square with an arrow pointing up. On an iPhone it's at the bottom of the screen. On an iPad it's at the top. (On newer iPhones you may need to tap the three dots first.)
  3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen".
  4. Tap "Add" in the top right corner.
On an iPhone, tapping the button opens the site in Safari, just as if you'd typed the address. That's on purpose: it means saving your finished documents works exactly as normal.

C Computer (Chrome or Microsoft Edge)

  1. Open pocketchangetools.com.
  2. Look at the right-hand end of the address bar for a small install icon (a little screen with an arrow), and click it. If you can't see it, open the browser's menu (the three dots) and look for "Install Pocket Change", or "Apps" then "Install this site as an app".
  3. Click "Install". Pocket Change opens in its own window and gets a button in your Start menu.

Prefer a simple bookmark? That works just as well: press Ctrl + D (or ⌘ + D on a Mac) while you're on the site.

Taking it off again

Removing the button doesn't remove anything else, and if you've paid to unlock a tool, the unlock stays in your browser.

Helping someone else?

This is a lovely small job to do on a parent's or friend's phone while you're with them. Put the button on their first home screen, near the apps they already use, and open it once together so they recognise it.
